Family Solutions provides a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, youth and their families living in Southwest Washington. Services are funded through state insurance (Medicaid), select commercial insurance plans, grants and private donations. Our clients range in age from 3 to 21 years.
Our highly qualified staff are prepared to provide treatment and support for the following conditions/situations and more:
- Anxiety
- Trauma
- Depression
- Developmental and Life Transitions
- Family Conflict and Disruption
Multilingual Services
We have Spanish and Korean speaking therapists on staff to provide services for members of our community needing services in these languages. Family Solutions is proud to have a therapist who is Deaf and fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), expanding accessible mental health services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children and families. When necessary, we engage interpreters to join the treatment teams of clients speaking other languages.
Accessing Services
Children and their families can access our services at our main office located in East Vancouver. In addition, Family Solutions partners with Vancouver School District, Evergreen School District, and Ridgefield School District to provide therapeutic services at select local schools. Virtual appointments are also available if this is determined to best meet a client's needs.
Therapeutic Services
Individual and Family Therapy
Our clinical staff provide client-centered, "trauma-informed care," a therapeutic approach that focuses on collaboration, empowerment and safety. We may utilize play therapy for young children, cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR for trauma recovery, and we have a dedicated art therapy space. Children do well when their families do well, so family therapy may also be an important part of a child's treatment, and we can involve a client's self-identified family when appropriate.
School-based Services
By providing services at area schools, we eliminate barriers that make it difficult for working families to participate in outpatient therapy. Our school-based team serves the Evergreen, Vancouver and Ridgefield School Districts, working closely with school staff. Therapy may take place during or outside school hours, and we offer school-based services year-round, even over summer break.
Group Therapy
We facilitate a variety of therapy groups in which children, youth and families learn and practice new skills with peers. Past groups include: Parent Support Coffee Hour, Collaborative Problem Solving, DBT Teen Group, Art Therapy Open Studio, CBITS, and LGBTQIA+ parent and youth groups.
Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication Management
If you believe medication might have a role in your child's wellness, we invite you to consider a psychiatric evaluation with our child and adolescent psychiatrists or nurse practitioners. Your therapist and medical provider will work with you to manage medication effectively, and we will help you transition to an outside provider when your care is complete.
Support Services
Family Support
Family Support Specialists lead educational and experiential activities (behavioral interventions) designed to increase clients' knowledge about mental health and treatment — symptom and behavior management, stress management, daily living and social skills, and problem solving. They work in the child's home, school, or community and connect clients with needed resources.
Peer Support
Peer Support is support provided by someone who has walked in your shoes — a staff member who has received mental health services or is the caregiver of a child with mental-health-related needs. Peer Counselors receive specialized training from the Mental Health Division of Washington State and work under the consultation of a qualified mental health professional.
Coordination of Care
Family Solutions coordinates with other care providers and agencies involved in our clients' lives, advocating on your behalf. Our Community Support Team (CST) is a specialized, multidisciplinary team providing services in community locations for some of our most vulnerable and at-risk youth.
Campus Resources
Clothing Closet & Backpack Program
With the help of volunteers and donations, we have clothing, coats, and shoes available for both children and adults, washed and sorted before being made available. Any member of your child's treatment team can assist with access.
Family Solutions partners with Share of Vancouver and participates in their Meal and Nutrition Program (The Backpack Program), offered during the school year to provide non-perishable food to families on Thursdays between 10:00am and 3:00pm. To inquire about access, please contact a member of our peer support team.
